Scientific name: Flores Hibisci

Synonyms: Sabdariff Marshmallow, Sudan Marshmallow, African Mallow

Family: Malvaceae

Occurrence of the plant: Today the drug is grown all over the world in the tropics, imported particularly from Sudan and Egypt.

Characteristics: The drug consists of the dried, whole or cut calyxes and outer calyxes harvested at fruiting time.

Application

For eczema and constipation.

 

Effect

thirst-quenching, laxative, antibacterial, diuretic,

antispasmodic

Tea making

Pour boiling water over 1.5 g of hibiscus flowers

and strain after 5 to 10 minutes.

Dosage

Unless otherwise prescribed: Drink a warm cup several times a day.

Hints

Hibiscus should not be used during pregnancy. Hibiscus can have a mild laxative effect.
